10th-13th century AD. Over ½” height plus the suspension loop. Of cross form but made asymmetrical with center post of different widths above and below the junction and the cross beam of differing projections. The center with a skewed or subverted saltire with differing motifs in the voids. The decoration of the beam projections as well, varies from side to side, confirming the asymmetrical shape. As well, the whole is about double the thickness usually encountered and together with the very short beam extensions, completely perverts the accepted image of the period. Such perversions of the cross are thought to be satanic. Professionally refurbished with the 24karat gold surface.
