Plate bronze formed as a circle with nubbed or eared quarters. Stipple radials at the quarters and vertical. Tapered cross pin in slot anchor. Worn in numbers on the leather war jerkin, at an ounce each, a few pounds could be added providing significant protection against sword blows. In this size and configuration, it is accurately identified as an element of scale armor. See current Public Broadcasting for Vikings wearing a protective brooch. Surface textured from burial. The silver surface restored for modern wear. On a modern 18” Sterling silver neck mounted polished leather neck cord and jewelry gift boxed with a certificate of authenticity.
