6 3/8” length. 18th-19th century. Central axel with baluster medial grip and addorsed   terminals of four ribs emanating from lotus platforms. To Buddhists, the Makara was the river dragon. Originally a weapon associated with the Thunder God, Indra, it evolved into a ritual object embodying strength, stamina, and invulnerability.
