JAPANESE 1875 PATTERN OFFICER’S SWORD

$565.00

Early example which probably served in a Russo-Japanese War of 1904- as well as serving in WWII. Good quality hilt well detailed in deep relief and pierced foliage. Remnants of gilt in protected areas. The back strap with silver mon of oak leaves. That mon indicates that the officer was of samurai heritage of the Makino family. See Mon The Japanese Family Crest, Hawley p.39. Wire wrapped buffalo horn grip. 29” plated blade with some flaking along the edge and original preservative. Unplated scabbard with light gray patina and a few dents. Fine aristocratic example.
