ITALIAN WOMAN’S PENDANT NECKLACE C1500-1700

$175.00

Gilt bronze, about 5/8” (0.59”) width of wheel form with six spokes, pierced circular hub, and pierced scalloped edge. Representing the Wheel of Fortune, a Pagan concept descended from the Romans and overlapping with the Christian era as many superstitions did. The six perimeter circles are probably a tribute to the Medici's arms and thus, to Venice. At the time, the Medici arms incorporated five circles which were reinterpreted in a variety of forms including the three ball symbol for pawn shops. Professionally refurbished with the 24karat gold surface restored on an 18” gilt sterling silver neck chain for modern wear. Jewelry gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
