Lathe turned wood with flared lip and baluster support over spread foot. Decorated inside and out. The exterior with red bands on black ground and simple floral displays at the quarter points. Specific to Eastern Europe in the second half of the 19th century, this work is one of the arts involved in that culture and probably an outgrowth of the popularity of painted furniture in central Europe, earlier in the century.
