Mahdist period. 7" ridged medial d.e. blade with "thumb" form tip, made for slashing. Wood hilt with flared terminals and ridged medial grip. The Hadendoa were call by the British military "Fuzzy Wuzzies" from their teased hair. They were highly respected warriors and considered, above all other tribal opponents, equals by the British. Their feats of breaking the British infantry square twice in the Anglo-Sudanese War, is immortalized in Kipling's poem Fuzzy Wuzzy.
