GERMAN DUELING SCHLAGER

Made for the blood duels fashionable among military officer's, about 1880-1930, the scars from which were proudly displayed as trophies. This example probably dates around the turn of the century. The heavy iron guard with thickened edge is dramatically textured with the results of hundreds of blows suggesting that it was the property of a military organization and served in a great many blood duels. The leather grip, as well, complete but showing surface wear from extensive use. 33 1/" broad fullered curved blade with rounded tip for inflicting the treasured cheek slash. Most conspicuously used example of these that we have seen.
