18th-early 19th century. 8 ¾” of characteristic bag form. See A Glossary of the Construction, Decoration and use of Arms and Armor, Stone, Fig.131. #10 . Molded leather with bulbous compartment and integral thick spout with original stopper. Raised mount for a fine pierced iron suspension ring. The surface is tooled throughout with a central panel of chevrons above a Persian inscription. The sides with tigers and additional calligraphy. All very well executed with black highlights. Leather suspension strap on nicely pierced iron mount. Excellent and undistorted. Surface is completely intact with a mottled patina. Very superior example.
