From the Baptist Missionary Society Collection. 51 ¼” length for use in close quarters when raiding kraals and huts. Large elegant elongated tear shaped blade with medial ridge and offset section with opposing discretely sharpened edges. Open seam conical socket. Cylindrical haft with iron trade tape wrap over faceted bulbous transition to the wasp form butt. Wonderful uniform age character. Baptist Missionaries settled in central Africa in the 1880s and were successful in converting some of the inhabitants. The collection was circulated among churches in England to raise funds for the missions. The collection was sold at Christie's London in the 1980s. The tag is not included.
