14th-15th century. Brass, 3 ¼” height. One of a series of which was suspended from the bridle (hook intact) for flair and to identify the rider. Circular with volute segment below. Both with intricate incised line and hound’s tooth edges. The center with remnants of solder profiling an armorial device, now lost. One edge slightly bent, indicating that it has been struck in the field at which time it was detached and lost its armorial attachment. Part of the elaborate trappings of a war horse, participating in a tournament.
