EGYPTIAN GRAND TOUR AMULET, 17th-18th CENTURY

$130.00
Faience, 2 1/8” in height modeled as a standing pharaoh in the desert hood. These were made in Egypt for sale to primarily English youths who, upon achieving the age of 21, would take a once-in-a-lifetime tour of the ancient monuments and sites to complete their educational experience. They were sold as genuine, as were reproductions of ancient pottery and other artifacts. Mounted for modern wear with silver suspension and a black leather cord or sterling silver neck chain (shown). Genuine antique replicating the 3000-year-old original.
