Tinned steel (zinc coated), 3 3/8” height with slightly tapered cylindrical body. Flared base and thumb rest handle. Domed top pierced in circles. The tined surface mostly thin with brow surface oxidation. The interior surface well preserved. Used with quill pen and ink to dust absorbent sand over slow drying ink to solidify and prevent smearing. See Collector’s Encyclopedia of the American Revolution, Neumann, p.274
