BYZANTINE RELIQUARY CROSS FRAGMENT 6TH-9TH CENTURY AD

Bronze, just under 1 ½” (1.45”) width. The right cross beam and parts of the left and center. Crisply engraved with the torso, arm and lower face of Christ in the orans posture. The back recessed for inclusion of a holy relic. Fine patina and clearly not a burial item. Possibly a funerary item and perhaps lost in a crack or crevice in a church until recently found.
