BAVARIAN OFFICER’S SWORD

Second half of the 19th century. Iron hilt with P form guard and silver wire wrapped ray skin grip. 26 ½” slightly curved broad fullered blade with large In Treue Fest motto on the arms of Bavaria, flanked by foliage (light as applied). Excellent throughout. Black leather scabbard with iron mount (minor dents) complete with a soft spot above the bottom mount. Likely serving Mad Prince Ludwig’s alliance with Austria in the 1866 War against Prussia which led to their defeat and compulsory alliance with Prussia against France in the Franco Prussian War.
