ANCIENT VIKING HEART PENDANT NECKLACE, 866-1067 AD

Gilt bronze. Charm size, just over 1 1/8” (1.15”) height plus the loop. Iconic cusped top heart form with nubbed quarters and the incised foliate motif. Foliate designs were favored by Vikings and incorporated into about half of heart pendants. The heart stood for bravery, fortitude, loyalty, and integrity, all attributes of the Viking warrior. It is abundantly referenced in Viking literature. Professionally refurbished with the 24karat gold overlay restored on a gilt Sterling silver 18” neck chain for contemporary wear.
