ANCIENT EGYPTIAN SPINDLE WHORL, 3RD-4TH CENTURY AD

$45.00

Dating to the Coptic Period which brought Christianity to Egypt, then part of the Roman Empire. Terra cotta, ridged bun form, with raised lip. About 1 3/8” diameter with a large spindle hole. Chipped in antiquity as shown. Used with a wood rod (spindle) in the hole to spin wool and flax. The hole size here indicates a heavier cord, probably wool.
